Care for Real helps the Edgewater community with food, clothing, counseling services and even pet food! This amazing agency has been helping the local community since 1970.
Once per month, clients can visit Care for Real for assistance with basic staple foods. Stop by up to four times per week for fresh produce and bread! CFR distributes nearly 60,000 pounds of food per month. Staples include peanut butter, rice, beans and more!
Certain clients receive special food items. Homeless clients can receive free easy-eat food that does not require refrigeration, can openers or cooking. On the first Thursday of every month, pet owners can receive pet food.
Special food baskets are available for Thanksgiving, Eid al-Fitr and Christmas!
In order to qualify for free food services, you must meet income guidelines. You cannot earn more than $1,771 for an individual, $2,391 for a couple or $3,631 for a family of four. For more information on the income requirements, please click here.
Get free clothing from Care for Real Clothes Closet! These items are gently used and may include warm hats, coats, scarves and gloves.
Employment Resource Center
The Employment Resource Center walks you through all the necessary steps to obtaining a job. They’ll help you establish a professional email, build your resume, write cover letters, practice interview skills, establish online profiles and apply for jobs online!
Diapers, cleaning, personal hygiene items and home health care aids may also be available from the food bank.
Last year, about 300 kids received winter clothes. Backpacks and school supplies are also available at the start of winter from the clothing closet.
